Your questions answered
Common questions
What is a team raffle, and how does it work?
A team raffle (also called a peer-to-peer raffle) lets your supporters form teams and compete to sell the most tickets. Each team member sells raffle tickets through a unique referral link. At raffle close, every sold ticket is given a physical counterpart with a corresponding number. The team whose tickets generate the highest total can win an additional prize (optional), and then all tickets—regardless of team—go into a manual draw for the main raffle prize.
How do we set up teams and track sales?
During setup, you define a team structure (e.g., “Team A,” “Team B,” etc.). Each team leader receives a unique referral URL. When a supporter clicks that link to purchase ticket(s), those tickets are attributed to that leader’s team. Our dashboard shows real-time ticket totals for each team so you can monitor which team is in the lead. This leaderboard display fosters friendly competition and encourages participants to promote vigorously.
Do we have to award a separate prize for the top-selling team?
No. A “Top Team” prize is optional. If you do offer it, you can award a prize to the team who sells the most tickets. Many nonprofits find team prizes drive extra enthusiasm and higher ticket sales, but it’s entirely up to your goals and budget.
Are there any up-front costs or financial responsibilities?
Team raffles require your nonprofit to secure and award the prize, which can involve an up-front expense if you purchase it directly. However, many organizations successfully offset this cost by partnering with local businesses or sponsors who donate prizes in exchange for a tax-deductible contribution. Our platform covers ticket production and compliance at no charge, so your only potential outlay is the prize itself. Over the years, we’ve built relationships with local partners and can help you explore potential sponsorship opportunities.
How do you ensure compliance with Maine’s charitable gaming regulations?
Our platform is fully state-approved and built to meet Maine’s charitable gaming laws. We automate age and location verification (so only eligible Maine residents can purchase), handle necessary permit filings, and provide you with all required documentation and reporting. This ensures your raffle is compliant from start to finish.
How do participants purchase tickets, and what does their experience look like?
Supporters can buy tickets through a branded, mobile-friendly raffle page. They simply select how many tickets they want and complete checkout with a debit card. Our platform guides them through a secure payment process. Once they purchase, they receive an email confirmation with their unique ticket numbers, and they can easily share a referral link to earn bonus tickets.
What types of prizes can we offer, and how do we manage multiple prize tiers?
You can offer cash, gift cards, merchandise, event tickets, or any item or package that makes sense for your audience. If you want multiple prize tiers (e.g., one grand prize, two runner-ups, and several smaller items), simply let us know during setup. We’ll generate ticket ranges or labels for each prize tier so you can draw accordingly. For example, you might place Grand Prize–labeled tickets in one container and Runner-Up tickets in another, or draw sequentially from the same bucket while assigning winners based on the order drawn.
When and how is the drawing conducted?
Once ticket sales close—either at a set date/time or when your sales goal is reached—we provide your nonprofit with all sold ticket numbers matched to their corresponding physical tickets. Since Maine law requires a manual drawing, your nonprofit simply gathers those physical tickets (already prepared by us), places them into a drum or bucket, and draws one ticket by hand in view of participants. The number on the drawn ticket identifies the winner, who is then notified by your nonprofit. This manual process is currently the only legal way to conduct an online raffle in Maine.
How soon do we receive funds after the raffle?
Within 7-14 days after the drawing, we deposit all funds, minus any fees, directly into your designated bank account. You’ll also receive a detailed summary report showing total tickets sold, gross revenue, and your net funds—making accounting and board reporting straightforward.
How do we promote our team raffle to drive ticket sales?
We provide built-in tools and best-practice guidance:
Referral Sharing: Encourage participants to share their unique referral links on social media, email, and text.
Email Templates: Use our customizable email templates to announce the raffle, send reminders, and highlight progress.
Social Media Assets: Leverage branded graphics and suggested copy for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to drive traffic.
Leaderboard Updates: If you enable referrals, showcase a public leaderboard (optional) to foster friendly competition and motivate supporters to sell more tickets.
What reporting and analytics are available?
Your nonprofit dashboard provides real-time metrics on ticket sales (quantity, revenue), referral performance (top referrers, bonus tickets earned), and purchaser demographics. After the raffle, you receive a downloadable post-campaign report summarizing total revenue, net funds received, and compliance documentation. These insights help you measure success and plan future fundraising strategies.
Who can I contact if I need help before, during, or after the raffle?
Our dedicated support team is available by phone and email throughout your raffle’s lifecycle. Whether you need assistance with setup, compliance questions, marketing advice, or technical troubleshooting, we’re here to ensure your event runs smoothly and successfully.
Is our nonprofit locked into a long-term contract?
No. You only pay when you run a raffle—there are no recurring fees or long-term commitments. Each raffle is a standalone event. If you choose to run additional raffles (same or different format), simply launch a new campaign using the same account without any additional setup charges.
